Ambe Dal


Ambe Dal is Maharashtrian preparation made with raw mangoes (kairi) and chana dal. It is prepared in the Chaitra month of the Hindu Calendar when there is abundance of raw mangoes. Tangy, spicy raw mangoes chana dal is tempered with mustard seeds & hing. Hint of sugar is added to balance the tartness



Ingredients

1 cup chana dal

1 raw mango

2/3 green chilies

Salt to taste

Sugar to taste

1 tsp mustard seeds

1/4 tsp hing

1/4 tsp turmeric

1 dry red chilli

Oil to temper


Method

Soak chana dal for 4 hours in enough water. Grind it coarsely in mixer.

Grate raw mango. Mix with dal.


Now heat oil in pan. Temper with mustard seeds, hing, turmeric, dry red chill. Mix with dal.

Add salt and sugar to taste. Add lots of fresh coriander. Garnish with grated fresh coconut.


Ambe dal is ready to be served.
