Black Forest Cake is very popular cake baked on the occassion of birthdays or parties. It is a moist cake with chocolate base & vanilla frosting with chocolate shavings on top.
Most of the cakes use butter but I prefer to use oil as it keeps the cake moist even in the refrigerator.
After going through many recipes for a perfect Black Forest Cake, I have settled down for this recipe which can even be made eggless. But egg does give a nice leavening to the cake. Here I have used egg while baking this cake.
1 1/2 cup Flour
1/2 cup Cocoa powder
Pinch of salt
1 1/4 cup powdered sugar
1/2 tsp Baking Powder
1 tsp Baking Soda
1/2 cup oil
1/2 cup thick yogurt
2 tsp Vanilla essence
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup Milk (can be adjusted as required)
300 ml heavy whipping cream
3-4 tbsp icing sugar
Preheat oven at 180 degrees celcius for about 10 minutes.
Sift flour, cocoa powder, salt, baking powder & baking soda together.
Beat oil & sugar till light. Then beat egg on high speed. Mix vanilla essence.
Then add yogurt & beat again.
Now add the dry ingredients & milk alternating with each other. Add water & mix well.
Grease a pan of 8 inches from the sides & place parchment paper below. Pour the cake batter & bake for about 30-35 minutes.
Demould the cake when it is cooled. After the cake is completely cooled then frosting can be done.
Whip about 300 ml heavy cream till firm peaks. Cut the cake into 3 layers & frost in between & the outer side. Wet the layers with sugar syrup to keep the cake moist.
Refrigerate for 6-7 hours before serving. This cake is medium size which serves 10.
Each oven takes different time to bake.I have baked at 200 C for 10 minutes .Then 180 C for 10 minutes & then at 160 for 12 minutes.
When the toothpick in the centre comes clean, the cake is done.
