Lasuni Aloo

Baby potatoes cooked with green garlic and tomatoes along with spices. Green garlic is in season now and it imparts superb flavour and taste to any preparation. In addition to it Green garlic is known to have health benefits. It is packed with anti oxidants and has natural antibiotic properties. Lasuni Aloo makes interesting gravy dish with dominant garlic flavour. Do check out the recipe of Undhiyu which also uses loads green garlic


300 grams baby potatoes

3 tomatoes

1 sliced onion

1 green garlic bunch(8-10 pods)

4 Kashmiri red chillies

1/2 tsp red chilli powder (optional)

7-8 cashews

1/2 tsp garam masala powder

1tsp cumin seeds

Salt to taste

Oil as required

Fresh Coriander for garnishing


Soak red chillies & cashews in hot water for 15 minutes. Blanch tomatoes and remove the skin.

Grind soaked red chillies, cashews, tomatoes to fine paste. Keep aside.

Peel the skin of potatoes. Puncture them lightly with fork. Boil them in salt water till they are almost cooked.

Once they are cooled, stir fry them with some oil to give them golden colour.

Heat some oil. Add cumin seeds. When they crackle add onions and saute till golden brown. Now add chopped green garlic along with the greens. Saute for few seconds.

Now mix the tomato cashew paste and cook for 4-5 minutes. Add water if required. Now add red chilli powder, garam masala and salt.

Add the stir fried baby potatoes to it. Add some water. The gravy tends to get thick due to cashews. Add water to get the required consistency.

Garnish with fresh coriander leaves. Serve hot with Chapati, puri or Paratha
