Matar Paneer is a popular North Indian dish made with cottage cheese and green peas. This is a rich, creamy semi gravy dish can be enjoyed by the whole family. Since green peas are very much in season now,thought of making forever famous restaurant style matar paneer


Ingredients
200 grams fresh paneer
100 grams fresh green peas
2 chopped onions
3 tomatoes pureed
2 tsp ginger garlic paste
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
2 green chilies
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp Kashmiri Red chilli powder
1/4 tsp Garam Masala
1/4 tsp kasuri methi
2 tsp melon seeds
5-6 cashews
Salt to taste
2 tbsp oil
1 tbsp ghee
Method
Heat a pan with oil & ghee. Then add cumin seeds. Add chopped onions and saute till they turn brown
Now add ginger garlic paste and saute. Then add all dry spices and mix well. Some water can be added so that masalas don’t burn.
Add the tomato puree and saute well till the oil leaves the sides of pan. Add salt
Boil green peas till they are soft. Mix with the onion tomato gravy. Add water to adjust consistency
Soak melon seeds and cashews in warm water for 10 minutes and grind it to fine paste. These give creamy texture to the gravy
Stir fry paneer a bit so that it becomes firm and gets golden colour. This is an optional step.
Add the melon cashew paste. Water may be added if required. Mix the fried paneer pieces to the gravy now.
Cook for 1-2 minutes and turn off the flame. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves. Squeeze lemon juice before serving
Serve hot with parathas, roti or fulkas
