Chicken Cafreal

Chicken Cafreal is Goan dish which also has Portuguese influence. Chicken Cafreal is usually prepared with chicken legs marinated with cafreal spice mix along with other Indian spices. It is perfect starter or side dish in parties and special occasions


1/2 kg chicken legs

Oil for pan frying

For Marination

Bunch of coriander leaves

7-8 green chilies

10 garlic pods

1 inch ginger

1/2 tsp pepper corns

1/2 inch cinnamon stick

2 cloves

Salt to taste


Marinate chicken legs after making gashes in them. Here I have used drumsticks and thighs. Let the chicken marinate for 6-7 hours or overnight.

Heat oil in pan. Place the chicken legs on pan for frying in high heat. Cook for 5 minutes on each side. Now add some water & cover & cook on low flame for 12-15 minutes till the chicken is fully cooked.

Serve with lime wedges or fried potatoes. It makes good accompaniment with rice or vegetable pulav.
