Dadpe Pohe / दडपे पोहे

Updated: Jul 16, 2020

Dadpe Pohe is a Maharashtrian snack made with flatten rice. Dadpe pohe gets its flavours with the juices released from onion and lime juice. Pohe is not cooked here but just tempered with mustard seeds, asafoetida and curry leaves. The resulting outcome is tangy, spicy and sweet taste which lingers in the mouth for a long time.

2 cups pohe

1 onion finely chopped

Juice of one lemon

1 tsp sugar

Salt to taste

Handful of roasted peanuts

1 tbsp grated coconut

Coriander leaves for garnish

For tempering

1 tsp mustard seeds

2 green chilies chopped

7-8 curry leaves

Pinch of asafoetida (hing)

Take Pohe and wet it with 1/2 cup water. Leave it aside for a while.

In another container mix onion, salt, sugar and lime juice. These will release juices. Now mix with the soaked pohe. Add some roasted peanuts for crunch.

Heat oil in a pan. Temper with the ingredients mentioned. Mix it with the pohe. Garnish with fresh coconut and coriander leaves.

Dadpe pohe is ready. It serves as an excellent breakfast or as an evening snack.
