Mutton Vade

Mutton which is goat meat is popular with the non veg lovers. It is customary to enjoy mutton preparations before the onset of Shrawan month when people abstain from meat. Mutton curry is particularly relished with vade

Sharing the recipe of mutton in an easy way.


1 Kg goat meat(mutton)

3 sliced onions

1 tbsp ginger garlic paste

1 tsp turmeric powder

2 tsp dried red chilly paste (use kashmiri chilies)

1cup yogurt

2 bay leaves

2 cloves

1 inch cinnamon stick

1 Star Anise

5-6 pepper corns

1/2 tsp Garam Masala Powder

3-4 tbsp oil

Salt to taste


Cut the mutton into medium pieces. Marinate with yogurt, turmeric, red chilly powder, ginger-garlic paste, salt to taste & garam masala powder. Keep it in fridge for about 3 hours. Retain 1 tsp ginger garlic paste for cooking gravy.

Sliced onions & lightly fry them in oil till golden brown colour. Grind it to paste after cooling.

Heat oil in pan. Add cloves, cinnamon, star anise, bay leaf ,pepper corns & mix it. Then add onion paste & saute well . Now add the ginger garlic paste and cook till it gets aroma.

Now add the marinated mutton & mix well. Add 1/2 cup water pressure cook for 10-12 minutes. Sprinkle garam masala as per taste. The cooking time for mutton depends upon the quality of mutton. Tender meat usually cooks within 10-12 minutes when cooked directly in the cooker.

When is mutton is cooked the gravy is ready. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves. Can be served with chapati, roti or phulkas. Tastes best with bhazani vade.
