Thai Basil Chicken

Thai Basil Chicken is one of the most popular street food in Thailand. It is a simple recipe of stir fried chicken tossed with aromatic basil leaves.

Ingredients

250 grams boneless chicken

7-8 garlic flakes

2-3 red chilies (thai chili padi the small variety)

Handful diced bell peppers ( yellow, red or green)

1 diced onion

1 tbsp oyster sauce

2 tsp soy sauce

Salt to taste

12-15 fresh basil leaves

2 tbsp oil

Method

Cut boneless chicken into bite size pieces. Here I have used the thigh boneless as it is more tender compared to chicken breast.

Pound garlic & red chilies to a coarse paste. I have used dried red chilies instead of chili padi and diced them. Heat oil till smoking hot and stir fry the chicken for 2 minutes on high heat. Remove and keep aside.

In the same pan heat oil on high flame. Now add the pounded garlic and red chilies. Saute it for 1/2 minute. Now add onion and bell peppers and saute it for a minute. Now add in the chicken. Mix oyster & soy sauce. Check salt if required as both sauces have high salt content. Cook everything on high heat.

Now turn off the heat and add the basil leaves. Aromatic Thai Basil Chicken is ready. This can be served as starter or as accompaniment with noodles or rice. Also authentic Thai style is served along with fried egg.
