Green Peas Pattice

Green Peas are relished best in winters.Green Peas Pattice are made with stuffing of fresh green peas, coconut and other spices and coated with a cover of mashed boiled potatoes and then shallow fried.


1/2 kg green peas

1 medium onion

6-7 boiled potatoes

1/2 cup grated coconut

5-6 green chillies

3 garlic cloves

1/2 inch ginger

1/2 cup coriander

1/2 tsp mustard seeds

A pinch of asafoetida ( hing )

1/2 tsp turmeric

Oil for frying

Salt to taste

3-4 spoons rice flour


For the filling

Take coconut, green chillies, ginger, garlic & coriander & make a paste in mixer. Boil green peas with a little salt till they are half cooked.

Now heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan.When the oil is hot ,temper it with mustard seeds, asafoetida.Add turmeric, chopped onion & saute.Then mix the bolied peas & let it cook till peas are fully cooked

To this mixture add the coconut & green chilly paste.Add salt & cook it till the mixture is cooked well & no moisture remains.The filling is ready now.

For the covering

Boil potatoes & peel them.Grate them so that there are no lumps left.To this add a bit of turmeric, ginger garlic paste & salt .Mix it well.

Apply some oil to hands & take a bit of this mashed potatoes & make a hollow in it.Fill it with the green peas filling & close them.Take care that the green peas do not pop out.

Coat them with rice flour & shallow fry them till golden brown colour on each side. Serve hot with chutney or ketchup.
